This unique waterfront area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the City linking Fisherman’s Wharf, the historic Custom House and other buildings within Monterey State Historic Park and the Maritime Museum. Conflicting issues that were resolved through the design process included addressing historic preservation and commercial needs, while incorporating pedestrian, bicycle, automobile and commercial vehicle circulation.

The project team provided master planning and construction documents which included rehabilitation of the Custom House Plaza to improve visitor use and provide more comfort; incorporating the plaza space around the proposed Maritime Museum to blend with the historical significance of the Custom House; incorporation of the popular Recreation Trail through the historic area; and removing existing street to accomodate improved Bay access.*
