The University Center acts as the CSU-Monterey Bay student union building. It houses a restaurant, bookstore, ballroom and offices. It was formerly an officer’s club for the Fort Ord Army Base that was decommissioned in 1994. Bellinger Foster Steinmetz worked as part of a design team to renovate the building and its exterior spaces. Utilizing materials consistent with the building and salvaging walls and gates, Bellinger Foster Steinmetz created functional patio and courtyard spaces to serve both students and faculty.
